Boarding at Brighton College Prep Handcross is an incredibly special experience for each and every one of our pupils. A supportive family environment that promotes independence as well as a strong sense of belonging ensures that our pupils know that this is their home away from home. The happiness and welfare of each and every one of our boarders is the most important thing to me as both a House Parent and Head of Boarding, as well as the whole School community.
Each of our boarding pupils is nurtured and supported with excellent pastoral care from our dedicated team of boarding staff to ensure that they fulfil their academic potential and develop lifelong skills that will stand them in good stead for years to come.
Miranda Goode
Head of Boarding
Weekly boarding offers the best of both worlds and is hugely popular with families from London, as well as those from Surrey, Sussex and Kent.
With no Saturday school and prep completed during the week, pupils can go home on a Friday and enjoy the weekend at home with their families. However, should they wish to stay at school and join in with our jam-packed weekend of activities, they are very welcome to do so.
We offer the ultimate flexibility for families. Our London bus routes allow for ease of travel on a Friday night and Monday morning, or pupils can stay to enjoy a packed weekend of activities with our full boarders.
Our full boarders enjoy a vibrant and engaging weekend programme filled with exciting activities. On site, they can take part in many activities including yoga, swimming, cookery classes, golf, climbing, photography, badminton, football, and drama workshops.
Throughout the year, we also organise a variety of trips, including adventures at Go Ape, paddle boarding, and Clip and Climb, as well as visits to other fun entertainment venues. Creative activities such as pottery, painting and art classes provide opportunities for self-expression, while cultural excursions to London and Brighton offer enriching experiences beyond the school grounds. With such a diverse range of activities, our boarders enjoy weekends that are both fun and fulfilling.
Throughout the weekend, study time is available with the support of our dedicated in-house tutors, ensuring that our boarders are up to date with their prep and examination preparation. Our music practice rooms are also available to use throughout the weekend.
Events such as open mic nights, table tennis tournaments and Our Dorm's Got Talent competition are also hugely popular.
Every evening and weekend, the school belongs to our boarders and is a wonderfully dynamic place to be.
A wide range of exciting activities is available, which complements and enhances academic life and takes full advantage of the excellent facilities within the school. This includes our heated swimming pool, tennis courts, golf course, music school, art studio and forest areas.
Our boarders enjoy a vast array of fun and educational activities which they may choose from, such as pizza evenings, film nights in our beautiful common room, cookery classes, escape rooms, barbeques, jewellery making, crazy golf and camping in the grounds.
We are also incredibly lucky to have access to the facilities at Brighton College. Our boarders enjoy weekend movie nights in their cinema, sports competitions and drama workshops.
Our catering team understands the importance of fuelling inquisitive minds. Healthy food is key to a healthy mind, but equally important is how food brings pupils and teachers together to share their day and wind down over a delicious meal.
Our chefs take great pride in the food they create, making sure that every day, individual needs are met through a large variety of creative, freshly cooked, inviting and simply delicious dishes. Our catering team has developed a range of initiatives throughout the year, providing engaging, fun and educational activities to support our pupils’ development and wellbeing. Our 'Around the World Tuesdays' are very popular with our boarding community, where they get the opportunity to try food from a different country every week.
Thoughtfully designed dormitories feature modern and functional furnishings, complemented by luxurious bathrooms and large stylish communal areas, ideal for evening and weekend activities. Set against the backdrop of our stunning grounds, the boarding house blends indoor luxury with the beauty of the countryside - creating an exceptional environment where pupils feel truly at home.
The best way to experience what life is like at Brighton College Prep Handcross is to join us at an Open Morning, where you will have the chance to talk to pupils and teachers about what makes our school such a special place, and to ask any questions you might have.
We also offer Mini Owls Toddler Club for families interested in joining our Nursery or Reception classes. Sessios are held weekly in our Nursery during term time and provide the ideal opportunity for parents and children to explore our school. Please email registrar@handxpark.com if you are interested in joining.
