The Performing Arts

Dance is introduced to pupils from Nursery as an enjoyable form of fitness and recreation. Dance is a key part of the Performing Arts Department where all pupils perform in our musical productions and is used as an increasingly important element to enhance storytelling and encourage both teamwork and self-expression on stage.

Pupils have the option to try a range of dance styles such as ballet, jazz, musical theatre and street dance. As well as our own dance clubs, we collaborate with external providers to expand the opportunities available for our pupils. Top Hat Stage School enhance our provision with fun Musical Theatre classes whilst Inspire Academy of Dance offer lessons for those wishing to focus on technique and work towards graded ISTD examinations.

Drama plays an integral role in the curriculum, with four spectacular productions a year and termly drama showcases. All pupils actively participate regardless of their level of experience or ability. Pupils are encouraged to get involved either on stage or behind the scenes, which provides a platform for them to showcase their skills and develop their confidence.

LAMDA lessons are increasingly popular. These lessons cover acting, verse and prose, public speaking, musical theatre and devising, and our pupils have a 100% pass rate. 

Most pupils play a musical instrument and are involved in a plethora of ensembles and bands. Our school orchestra, jazz band, brass band, string ensembles and choirs are all thriving, and they offer multiple opportunities for performances each term. All individual instrumental and vocal lessons are delivered by our team of excellent peripatetic teachers, who are all successful practising musicians outside of their teaching commitments.

The hard work and determination of our young musicians are evident in our 100% pass rate in the ABRSM, Trinity and Rockschool examinations.
