WHO WE ARE

At Brighton College Prep Handcross, we have the highest ambitions for all of our pupils. Our children know that, through hard work and determination, anything is possible. In a magical countryside setting, we challenge, inspire and energise our pupils, we build confidence, nurture curiosity and develop a love of learning, for its own sake. We are proud to be a family school with a strong culture of kindness. We insist on good manners and high moral standards at all times.

Brighton College Prep Handcross seeks to impart or provide:

  • kindness, mutual respect and an appreciation of diversity within our community and the wider world.
  • an environment where children are happy, ambitious, confident and secure.
  • a love of learning, inspired by excellent teachers and through a wealth of forward-thinking, educational opportunities.
  • an enthusiasm for the world beyond the classroom – in particular, sport, music, drama and visual arts
  • an awareness of the needs of others, and a firm belief that – whatever our age – we can make a difference.
  • an awareness and appreciation of the spiritual dimension in our lives.
  • a respect for difference in others and a recognition that the efforts and achievements of every individual in our community are of equal value.

Our School motto, dating back to 1918, is “Be Trewe”, an old English phrase, reminding us to be true to ourselves and to each other. In other words, to strive to be the best version of ourselves and to live our lives with integrity. Under this banner, we promote values such as kindness, forgiveness, respect, collaboration, courage and having a zest for life.

Our pupils know there is a whole world beyond the classroom, and we encourage them to remember they are a part of society, not apart from it. Through a wide variety of community projects, our pupils learn the importance of giving back and making a difference in the world.
