Our Colts A Boys travelled to Brighton College to compete in the Football Pelican Cup. With a host of big schools from across Sussex, Surrey, and Kent, the standard was high, and the format was tough. There were two groups of six, and you had to win your group to then advance to the Cup Final and play the winner of the other group.

Our boys started positively with a tough game against Holmewood House, earning an important point. This was followed up with comprehensive wins over St Christopher’s and Dulwich Prep. We then lost a tight game 1-0 against Thomas's Clapham, which left us unlikely to finish top of the group. However, the boys demonstrated excellent resilience and a positive team attitude to record a 2-0 win against Westbourne House and put us back in the mix.

As we eagerly awaited the results to come in, there was ecstasy to see that three teams had finished tied on points at the top, with Brighton College Prep Handcross coming top on goal difference! This took us into the Cup Final against Oakwood School.

With plenty of spectators and tired legs but a fantastic attitude, the boys put in a brilliant, but nervous, performance in the final. Some great football led to an early Oakwood own goal, and then Elliot scored a brilliant free-kick to secure the victory!

This is the first time our school has won the Pelican Cup and is a huge achievement for the boys. The standard of football was fantastic, and the way the children bounced back after a loss and came together as a team to not give up was most pleasing!

 Well done to all involved!
